The Donghak Peasant Movement was driven primarily by resistance to social and economic inequality in late Joseon, including corrupt officials, exploitative taxation, class divisions, and the growing hardships faced by farmers. Although opposition to Japanese and Western influence played a role, the movement ultimately centered on reforming the feudal system, promoting equality, and pursuing social modernization.
